Third Leap

[Hey guys, guess who was pretty much nowhere to be seen last week? Rose Tyler. Why? She was pretty much sleeping the whole time. Seriously. That chocolate was potent stuff, and she just...was way too chill to want to do anything but laze around in bed. It was like a flashback to her teenage years. Not the best time to flash back to, really. Still, she's recovered now, and finished complaining.

So. Hello there, world of the living!]

You'd think I'd have learned not to take candy from strangers, but no, apparently that never goes away. [Okay. Mostly done complaining.] Anyway, question time: have they done something like this before? Obviously they're not new to deceit but...issuing thing designed to make our lives go haywire? Is that normal?

Yes. Well, probably. This is a little more blatant, but there were Halloween costumes, and before that lottery tickets. Marriage licenses and divorce papers... a cruise...

But they've also provided plenty of things that didn't go wrong. So the question is, are they planning the disaster, or do those occur afterward, outside their influence? It's hard not to think of them as malicious, and they're certainly not any good at being in charge, but that doesn't make this their fault.

Probably, though.

[She may or may not have noticed. She was pretty chilled out at the time. Which...she no longer is. She's not the opposite, at least, but chilled out definitely wouldn't describe her currently. She frowns.] So...either they're malicious and trying to hurt us for...whatever reason, or they're grossly incompetent with too much power?

That's about the size of it!

My own theory, actually, is that whatever makes this island strange is a part of what brought us all here. The people who run the island -- they can tap that power, move it in one direction or another, but they don't understand it and they can't control it. Probably. That's why everything that happens is random. You get the good with the bad.

So worse than incompetent: People who've got enormous power and no idea what they're doing with it. Of course...I s'pose that means there's no way to know if the positive or the negative effects were intentional, or if they're just pressing random buttons to see what happens?

Don't really blame you from taking candy, really. It's hard to ignore when it's free. I mean, they're practically begging to be taken anyway. From the stores, I mean. I expect that's just what happens when one creates sugary, chocolatey goodness. (ANYWAY) The way people have been talking about them, though, it sounds like somebody spiked them with some sort of potion or something like that. Wasn't here myself, but I reckon we'll have to be a bit more careful in the future.

Well, not saying I'd make it a daily habit, but when we're only given so much, it can be hard to resist. Personally, I'd like to make it a bit more interesting. (He shrugs) That's right. Woke up in some hospital where some blokes told me I was fictional or something like that. If you ask me, they're the ones who should be in a bloody mental hospital.
